5 Amazing Online Resources for Parents Moving to Atlanta

Parents wouldn’t be parents if they didn’t worry about their children. In addition to finding the right school, parents have to find out what the community is like when they want to move. Fortunately, Atlanta has a thriving online community dedicated to making the many opportunities for children accessible to their parents. When you’re considering bringing your child to Atlanta, these 5 resources will show you just how many things there are for them to see, do, and experience in this great city.

1. Red Tricycle

This family calendar site has a variety of options for the children, mainly in the form of adult supervised events. There’s a lot of emphasis on theater and other shows, good for cultivating an appreciation of story telling and the arts from a young age. You can choose the date on the calendar if you want to see what’s going on on a particular date, but you can also browse the editor’s picks. Most of these events are low to mid-cost, $12-$20 per person, though many could be cheaper if you ended up getting a membership to the theater, etc.

2. Atlanta.net

This whole site is a great resource for Atlanta residents and people new to the area. After you’re done planning your child’s weekend you can change sections to browse for awesome date ideas with the spouse, but that’s neither here nor there. This easy to navigate website has a lot more emphasis on public and free events, making it a perfect way to balance out the occasionally expensive options you’ll get from other sites. From parades to tree lightings (close to the winter holidays, of course), Atlanta.net has many outside, free, or reduced cost events at local museums and other places of educational value.

3. AtlantaWithKid

This is the place to go if you’re trying to bring your child to Atlanta to see it before you move. You can find amazing local deals (such as “Kids eat for .99” at local restaurants) and attractions not just from Atlanta but from the surrounding area as well. You can find a variety of events that will challenge your child and save you a little cash, so you can turn this into a whole weekend of fun instead of just one day. The only drawback is that you might have to try a few times to search the site; the layout is not ideal. The effort will be well rewarded, however.

4. Atlanta.Eventful.com

Simple and straight forward, Atlanta.Eventful.com focuses on things that parents and children can enjoy together. There’s an emphasis on seeing shows; in fact, one of the easiest to find search options includes selecting which venue you’d like to look at. If you want to find a great, somewhat “big deal” event to dazzle a reluctant child you’ve come to the right site. You can browse events by location, but also by category, so you’re sure to find something for even a reluctant child.

5. AtlantaParent

This is a great resource for any parent in Atlanta. It will allow you to familiarize yourself with what’s on Atlanta parents’ minds before you move there, or put you in touch with the topics of the day. There are advice articles, lists of ideas for holiday fun, and more. You can take their ideas and turn them into funs days at home, or browse their guide to accessible parks and playgrounds so you know where to take your child once you arrive. Either way, keep this site in your back pocket: it’s going to come in handy.
